Historic Morrison Hotel, Immortalized by The Doors, Destroyed in Los Angeles Fire — LAFD Investigates
The historic Morrison Hotel in Los Angeles, famously featured on The Doors' fifth album cover, has been severely damaged by fire. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to the incident yesterday morning, initially observing light smoke before discovering intense flames on the fourth floor that spread to the roof.

Over 100 firefighters battled the blaze for 97 minutes. Several dozen homeless individuals evacuated the building, which has been vacant for more than 15 years. No injuries have been reported, though recovery teams will search the premises once deemed safe.
The 111-year-old building, which served as an LAFD training site, was slated for restoration as part of a broader redevelopment plan for the area. The project would have included renovating the historic structure and constructing an adjacent building.
The LAFD has launched an active investigation into the fire's cause. While the building suffered extensive damage, nearby structures remained unaffected.
Doors members John Densmore and Robby Krieger haven't publicly commented on the incident. Krieger, 78, shared several Jim Morrison paintings on Instagram and is scheduled to perform at a benefit concert on January 4th.
