Hellbender Vinyl: Pittsburgh's New Artist-Run Record Pressing Plant Opens Its Doors
A new artist-run vinyl pressing facility, Hellbender Vinyl, has opened its doors in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood. Co-founded by Jeff Betten and Matt Dowling, the plant is one of only 40 vinyl pressing facilities operating in the United States.

The facility manufactures 7", 10", and 12" vinyl records, serving artists of all career stages. As a member of the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM), Hellbender has quickly established itself as a trusted manufacturer in the industry.
Notable clients include established acts like Guster, The Ataris, Sparta, and Wheatus, alongside local Pittsburgh talents such as Ghost Hounds, MCG Jazz, and Jim Donovan & Sun King Warriors. The company also serves corporate clients including Urban Outfitters, Mountain Dew, and Saatchi & Saatchi.
Beyond manufacturing, Hellbender fosters community engagement through various events, including live shows, album listening parties, art exhibits, and film screenings. Their next event, a Record Store Day party, is scheduled for April 12 at 5:30 pm EST.
The launch of Hellbender Vinyl addresses the vinyl supply chain challenges highlighted by Jack White in 2022, when he called for major labels to open their own pressing plants. This independent facility now provides artists with direct access to vinyl production, supporting the growing demand for physical music formats.
