Originally written in 1899 by James Weldon as a celebration of President Abraham Lincoln's birthday, "Lift Every Voice and Sing" has been performed at the Super Bowl since 2020. Previous performers include Alicia Keys (2021), Mary Mary (2022), and Andra Day (2024). Otis Jones IV will provide the American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation.
The pre-game show will also feature New Orleans native Jon Batiste performing "The Star-Spangled Banner" and Louisiana native Lauren Daigle singing "America the Beautiful" alongside Trombone Shorty.
"I'm excited to showcase what New Orleans represents, and the culture, and the beauty of unity in music," Daigle shared with NOLA.com. "To sing out over the city and from the city into the rest of the world is going to be one of my favorite things, maybe ever."
The Super Bowl LIX, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs versus the Philadelphia Eagles, will take place on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Pre-game performances begin at 6:30 pm ET, available on Fox, Fubo, and Tubi.
