Gibson Takes Legal Action Against Trump Guitars Over Les Paul Design
Gibson has issued a cease and desist order to Trump Guitars over alleged infringement of the iconic Les Paul guitar body design. The dispute emerged after Donald Trump endorsed the guitar collection on his Truth Social platform on November 20.
The guitars, manufactured by 16 Creative, feature American-themed designs with pearl lettering displaying messages like "Make America Great Again" and "God Bless the USA." Some models, signed by Trump himself, are priced up to $11,500.
"We can confirm a cease and desist has been issued against 16 Creative," Gibson representatives told Guitar World. "The design infringes upon Gibson's exclusive trademarks, particularly the iconic Les Paul body shape."

Gibson has a history of actively protecting its intellectual property, including an ongoing legal dispute with Dean over body and headstock designs. The company recently collaborated with US Customs and Border Protection to seize over 3,000 counterfeit guitars.
Despite the legal warning, Trump Guitars continues to accept pre-orders for its "Presidential Series," which maintains the disputed Les Paul-style body design. The company's first edition American Eagle Electric Guitar is currently listed as sold out.
Note: While the designs are officially endorsed by Donald Trump, the guitar company is owned by 16 Creative, a third-party organization, rather than Trump himself.
