Drake Denies Authenticity of Leaked DMs About Universal Music Group Battle
Drake denies sending a DM to stylist Chris Blake Griffith about his ongoing legal battle with Universal Music Group (UMG), asserting that the alleged message is completely fabricated.

The disputed Instagram DM, posted by Griffith on Tuesday, contained detailed explanations about Drake's legal action against UMG. The message compared his situation with UMG to "Nike funding a campaign about LeBron cheating on his wife" and discussed making the industry "a safer place for every artist moving forward."
Drake's associate Akademiks quickly addressed the situation on social media, stating: "This is a fake DM. Drake called buddy a rat... he got mad and made up some fake DM to try to make the blogs and go viral. End of story."
The controversy comes amid Drake's ongoing legal battle with UMG, which includes two pre-action legal petitions filed in November. These petitions allege that UMG:
- Used bots and payola schemes to artificially boost Kendrick Lamar's diss track "Not Like Us"
- Engaged in defamation by allowing the release of content containing serious allegations against Drake
The legal proceedings continue with two upcoming hearings:
- January 13: Hearing to determine if Drake can depose UMG and iHeartMedia employees
- January 16: Second hearing regarding Drake's filing against UMG and Spotify
