The scam primarily targeted fans in Burlington, Ontario, through a local woman known as "Denise" who claimed to have access to corporate tickets through a third-party seller. Victims were promised tickets for Swift's November 15 Toronto show, which were supposed to be delivered just days before the event – similar to Ticketmaster's legitimate delivery timeline.
Annette Newton, one of the victims, spent $2,500 on four tickets as Christmas gifts for her daughters. She trusted the seller due to multiple community members vouching for her legitimacy and previous successful ticket sales. When the delivery date arrived, the seller claimed her corporate contact had failed to provide the tickets.
Victims connected through Facebook and created a shared Google document tracking losses, revealing:
- Over 450 promised tickets
- More than 200 affected individuals
- Victims across multiple provinces and U.S. states
- Total losses exceeding $300,000
The Halton Regional Police Financial Crimes Unit is currently investigating multiple complaints. Police spokesperson Jeff Dillon confirmed they're receiving reports and advised residents to exercise caution when purchasing tickets.

The seller claims she was also victimized by her supposed corporate ticket supplier but has declined to answer further questions, stating only that she has filed a police report.
