The venue, which opened in 2021, was a collaboration between former Live Nation executive Anthony Makes and Maracuja owner Kelly Winrich. The partnership deteriorated into a complex legal battle, with Winrich filing serious allegations against Makes and his wife.
Key allegations in the lawsuit included:
- Fraudulent inducement and breach of fiduciary duties
- False promises of lucrative partnerships, including a purported Spotify investment
- Mismanagement of ventures and diversion of company funds
- Exclusion from financial operations
- Damages exceeding $75 million in music-related investments
The parties reached a settlement in principle in February 2025, leading to the venue's closure. Makes expressed satisfaction with the partnership's end, stating, "I am very pleased that this partnership has ended and I am out of those buildings. I'm looking forward to the next chapter."
The abrupt shutdown has affected numerous scheduled performances, with artists like Amigo the Devil relocating their shows to alternative venues. The closure marks the end of Brooklyn Made's nearly four-year run as a significant player in Brooklyn's live music scene.
