Affected Products:

  • Savage Cat Food Large Chicken Boxes (84 oz.) – Best by 11/15/2026
  • Savage Cat Food Small Chicken Boxes (21 oz.) – Best by 11/15/2026

The FDA is investigating connections between raw pet food and bird flu spread in cats. While no human cases have been reported from handling pet food, precautionary measures are recommended.

Watch for these symptoms in cats:

  • Fever or lethargy
  • Loss of appetite
  • Eye or nose discharge
  • Inflamed eyes
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Tremors, stiff movements, or seizures
  • Blindness

If your cat shows any symptoms, contact a veterinarian immediately.

Steps for pet owners:

  1. Stop using the recalled products immediately
  2. Dispose of food in sealed bags
  3. Sanitize food bowls and contact surfaces
  4. Monitor pets for symptoms
  5. Contact manufacturer for refund

Safety Guidelines:

  • No current evidence of human H5N1 transmission from pet food
  • Wash hands thoroughly after handling pet food
  • Report pet illnesses potentially linked to contaminated food to FDA

The FDA continues to monitor the situation and investigate pet food-related illnesses. Pet owners should remain vigilant about their pets' food and regularly check for recalls.
