The legendary musician cited an ongoing battle with vertigo starting in 2019 and COVID-19 pandemic restrictions as reasons for using the automated signing system. Dylan explained that his usual signing process requires five crew members working in close proximity, which became impossible during lockdowns.

"Using a machine was an error in judgment, and I want to rectify it immediately," Dylan stated through his Facebook account. He is now working with Simon & Schuster and his gallery partners to address the situation.

Simon & Schuster has already offered refunds to customers who purchased the $600 limited edition of Dylan's book "Philosophy of Modern Song." Castle Galleries, which sells Dylan's art prints, announced they are contacting affected collectors to "offer a solution to fully rectify the matter."

The controversy affects artwork and books sold since 2019, with some pieces having been sold for more than $17,000. Other galleries are expected to announce similar remediation plans for affected customers.
