Bipartisan American Music Tourism Act Launches in Congress with Major Industry Support
A new bipartisan legislation, the American Music Tourism Act, has been introduced by Senators John Hickenlooper (D-CO) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) to boost music tourism across the United States.

The bill amends the existing Visit America Act and requires the Commerce Department's assistant secretary for travel and tourism to:
- Identify key music-related locations and events in the U.S.
- Promote domestic and international tourism to these sites
- Submit annual reports to Congress on promotional activities and achievements
Music tourism is defined as travel for:
- Attending live performances
- Visiting historic or modern music-related attractions
- Exploring museums, studios, and venues of all sizes
The legislation has gained support from major industry organizations, including:
- The Recording Academy
- The RIAA
- National Independent Venue Association (NIVA)
NIVA executive director Stephen Parker emphasized the importance of music tourism for economic development, noting its positive impact on both rural communities and city centers. The bill recognizes independent venues' role in attracting investment and visitors, benefiting local businesses and attractions.
